"Silhouettes"

Gilles Cappadoro is an aesthete, and his monochrome photographs celebrate a timeless beauty — that of the moment, of shimmering reflections, of the vastness of the wave, of the transparency of a bubble, of smoke caressing faces, of a cloud crossing a landscape, of urban or port perspectives with graphic lines, of evocative shadows, of fleeting gestures… so many silhouettes that enchant the walls of Villa les Camélias this autumn.

Gilles Cappadoro’s work also evokes the legacy of Jean Cocteau and the international youth center he directed; for decades, he has admired the imprint left by the genius on the Cap d’Ail landscape. Like Cocteau, he explores coincidence — for beyond the one that unites the photographer and the moment he captures, the reflections in a puddle or the gleam of a musical instrument also open the door to a parallel world where doubles wander, dance, and transcend reality.

Hélène Bonafous
Villa les Camélias

“To feel symphonic music under the intense August moon, facing Cocteau’s monumental graphic poetry, was an emotional shock of great gentleness.”
